Conservation Programs
It is a very sad fact that the magnificent Indian elephant is classified on the red list of endangered species. The sole reason behind this is the greed of human for pleasure even if that results in the death of another creature. Rampant poaching of these elephants for the ivory from their tusks most notably used to make pieces of jewelry and cruel training methods has led to this drastic decline in their population. Shockingly, these elephants are almost extinct in India. It was because of these reasons that the sudden collapse of Max on the ground became a matter of huge concern. The outsiders looking at the whole incident were also equally perplexed and worried to see the strange string of events that happened in front of them inside the elephant compound.
Metal Hooks
The question that still remains is whether the tools carried by the zookeepers were really meant for protecting themselves and training the elephants or it was for torturing and hurting them. The verbal spat between the commenters heated up as posts like “Why do they have those abusive hooks in their hands?” and “the mother elephant didn’t get close because the humans are holding large metal hooks,” came up. It was really a matter to be deeply pondered upon and investigated if needed. As the creature under concern amidst the whole event is in a situation which is very critical and a threat to its very existence in the world.Let’s find out how the whole episode concluded, was something sinister happening in the zoo or it was just a case of misconception.
A High Rated Zoo
Believe it or not, the whole incident and especially its video that went viral created quite a stir among the people and in zoos and conservation centers for elephants across the world. The whole topic of the debate was the characteristic tools used and still continues to be so in the animal rights world. The thing that irked people opposing the zookeepers most was the news of the frequent incidents regarding the use of bullhooks to physically abuse the elephants.Luckily, for the members of the Prague Zoo, there was no evidence of such a cruel practice in their premises. On top of that, the zoo was known to be one of the best when it came to giving animals the best environment to thrive. An evidence of it being rated 4th best zoo in the whole world by Trip Advisor.
Helping Animals Like Max
Thankfully, with the sincere and ardent efforts of zoos like the one in Prague, species like the Indian elephant are being provided a chance to grow in number and escape the danger of getting extinct. There are specific programs designed for other endangered species like these elephants with the prime objective of restoring them by providing them a suitable surrounding to live peacefully away from all dangers. Initiatives like these in the past would have helped humans to save many unique and beautiful species from being extinct and the current generation would not have been devoid of witnessing them in real. Nevertheless, things are improving now and cute and precious animals like the cute baby elephant Max are provided a golden chance to live safely and happily.
A Worried Parent
A very emotional and heartfelt moment was to see the expression of despair and desperation on the face of Janita after witnessing the sight of her son shows no sign of activity after laying down on the ground. This once again proves that animals also possess emotions equivalent to that of humans. It is our moral duty to respect these feelings and emotions displayed by the animals, as they are innocent and always ready to help mankind in more ways than one. As far as Janita is concerned, it was just a natural reaction that any mother would come up with on witnessing a sight similar to that of Max. Surprisingly, one can easily deduce that nothing bad had happened to Max and it was just a case of someone taking an extremely deep nap. Though, Max cannot shy away from the fact that his nap became a reason for tension and worry in the minds of both his mother and the zookeepers for a short span of time.
The Indian Elephant
Let’s give you a brief insight on the Indian elephant, the animal in the spotlight throughout the whole incident. As told earlier this species is currently endangered and has a total population of around 20,000 to 25,000. Their size varies from 6-11 feet at the shoulder and can weigh up to 5 tons. Their natural habitat is that of a dry, tropical or subtropical moist forest and grasslands. These animals which can measure up to 21 feet in length show some unbelievable traits of feeding for 19 hours a day and traversing an area of around 125 square miles as a part of their daily routine. They are a subspecies of the Asian elephant and full credit goes to facilities like the one in Prague zoo that are taking all possible measures to keep them away from the danger of getting extinct.
