Worth Dollars
Weiss finally asks the boy the question he had been waiting for. “How much do you think this painting would cost?” The boy in a low tone says, “it must be around a hundred and fifty bucks or so.” Weiss asked the boy to hold his heart and said, “Today, if your Albert Neuhuys watercolor came to an auction, it would probably sell for about $1000 to $1500.” The boy could not believe what he heard, “Did You Say Thousand?”
Catch the child’s reaction in the video that follows.
Blown Out
The only thing which the boy uttered after hearing the worth of his $2 costing painting was “Woah”. He could not believe that just a piece of art lying completely ignored in a junk cost this much. His expressions clearly depicted that the boy was blown away by the actual worth of the painting. Weiss says, “That’s a lot of money!” Practically it was no less than a lottery.
Weiss had something more for the boy.
Knowledge
Someone has rightly said, “Share your knowledge, it’s a way to achieve immortality”. Looking at the boy’s passion, this expert had some more of his expertise to furnish the child with. Just because the boy was having an interest in this field, he wanted to tell him some more facts about paintings and the artists associated, so that this young lad could use this information in future.
Albert Neuhuys
Neuhuys is a 19th-century painter belonging to the country of Netherlands. Weiss tells the boy that Neuhuys and other painters belonging to that era often pictured scenes from life at home, with a special inclination for mother and her offspring paintings. The artist was from Laren School, a Dutch artist colony, where painter Jozef Israels also resides. Neuhuys was attracted towards the country lifestyle and he began to paint the same with dedication and passion.
Popular Among Population
Neuhuys’ work was appreciated worldwide and the tranquility in his paintings garnered the population’s attention. It became the prime reason for his paintings to be sold at a profit. In almost all of his paintings, a mother knitting or sewing a piece of cloth around her children remained a constant. Many of his works are placed in renowned exhibitions and museums. Luckily the bot too owned one.
Incredible Find
Weiss provided the boy with more information which would help the boy appreciate his finding. He throws light upon Neuhuys and his work and continued saying “Neuhuys was one of the Dutch painters. He was born in 1844, and he died in 1914. I think your watercolor was probably done in the last quarter of the 19th century.” Before this statement, the boy was actually curious to know about exactly to which century did this painting belonged.
