Most of us throw the old stuff and junk found in our attics and cellar. Mostly because those items are of no use or maybe because some of those items seem useless to us. Many of us even dump these in a junkyard for some pennies. But, have you ever given a thought that a vase, a painting or any piece of furniture which seems way too old can be an antique as well?
Antiques are exorbitantly priced because of their aesthetic or historical value. There is some 100 years old stuff which makes for an entire antique market which has a high value in the auction world.
A boy buys a painting for $2 from a junky auction and had absolutely no clue about its actual worth. When he finds out the worth of his mere $2 costing painting, he was astonished.
A Young Boy
This boy became the youngest collector to have ever appeared on the Antiques Roadshow. He was passionate about antiques and since quite an early age only showed a keen interest in the antiques. He appeared here with a painting, he knew something about and just that he bought it for some $2. Probably when he stepped in here, he wasn’t aware of what a significant find he had made.
Antiques Roadshow
Antiques Roadshow is one of the popular British Television Show, in which various antique appraisers from all over the world travel to various regions of the United Kingdom to assess the antiques bought in by local people. The show has been running in since the year 1979 and was initially based on a documentary series dating to the year 1977. The show captures the people individually and assesses their products over a one-on-one discussion.
Expert Advice
For an amateur like this boy, seeking an expert opinion was a necessity. Seeking an outside appraisal to know whether your item is worth selling or not is a smart move. Many expensive sculptures, pieces of art, vases end up in thrift stores and shops which value them at a price that maybe exorbitant for their enormous history. Similarly, this boy traveled all the way to Richmond, Virginia in order to discover the worth of his mere $2 costing painting.
The History
At the Antique Roadshow, the professional evaluators provide the people an in-depth context of history, incidents, the story about the product being evaluated. This adds an interesting element to the show. It becomes even more appealing for the people who have an interest in past artifacts and pieces. Another aspect which makes the show an all-time popular is that the evaluators tell an estimation about the price of that item.
Travel To Richmond
When this young antique freak boy learned that the show’s next session will be filming in Richmond, Virginia, he requested his parents to take him there. Since he has been an avid viewer of this show, he knew the experts there could definitely furnish him with some information about his painting. The boy was suspicious about his painting being some $100 in worth. Seeing their child’s curiosity, the parents took him there. And they were completely amazed at the findings…
The Day
In the year 2013, the Antiques Roadshow conducted one of the most unique interviews that had ever been held in the history of the show. No boy this young in age ever came at the show for getting his antiques assessed. The boy’s interest to come till here itself speaks about his passion for antiques. David Weiss who is the resident expert in drawings and paintings for the American edition of Antiques Roadshow sat for evaluation of a painting brought by this boy. After making the boy comfortable, Weiss continued with his work.
