It had been 11 months now since Frank had been living in the disguise of a doctor but something happened that raked his conscience. His lack of medical knowledge almost made him lose an infant patient. He realized that people’s life was at stake and even though he was fine in subtly looting them, he was not okay with putting their life in danger. He decided to go to France- or to his direct downfall.
Wanted Criminal
Frank’s posters were stuck up at various places and an ex-girlfriend of his saw him in France and immediately notified the police. Frank was arrested and put into the French prison after a 2 days trial. He lived in really bad conditions, he explains those in the video clip ahead and how it opened his eyes. But did the police really get him? He was an artist. And he fooled them, again.
Less Than Human Treatment
Frank Abagnale narrated the story of his own arrest, in the video clip attached ahead he informs, “I was arrested in 1970 in a little town called Montrichard in southern France. French prisons were a horrible place. There was a cell where you only had a blanket on the floor, there was a hole in the floor to go the bathroom, there was no plumbing, there was no electricity. Consequently, when you leave that prison system, it was a true deterrent.”
Escape Artist
Frank was a wanted International criminal by countries like Spain, Germany, Turkey, Egypt, Britain, Greece, Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, Lebanon, and Cyprus. But America got his custody from France. However, they underestimated this kid-man, forgetting that he had faked the identity of a pilot before. He knew more about planes and their secret passages than any person on board.
Slipping Through Fingers
When the flight carrying Frank landed at the JFK Airport, Frank manipulating his previous knowledge of the plane’s layout escaped through the kitchen galley. This was literally an insult to the American authorities. Frank had vanished from right under their noses, humiliated the system. But where was he headed now, what was he going to do next?
Caught Again, Escaped Again
Frank collected the money he had saved in a safe deposit in Montreal and decided to leave the US for Brazil. But the Canadian Mounties caught him again and he was handed over to the US authorities again. He was penalised with 12 years in prison on multiple charges which included forgery, identity theft, check fraud among other crimes but will you believe it? He managed to escape even from the prison in Atlanta.
