On-Flight Turbulence

Pulling off being a pilot was not as easy as acquiring the uniform for it. The flight pilots offered him to fly the plane a lot of times because they did not doubt his disguise. But handling a plane more than 25,000 feet above the ground not only put the lives of travelers in danger but also his. He would turn on the autopilot to be safe. He also got to know that the police was looking for him, so he built a longer false trail.

When Frank discovered that the police had found about the check fraud, he started thinking of a different false career, along with being a pilot, well a fake pilot. Abagnale started forging Harvard Law answer sheets. The only thing he needed to be a lawyer was to pass the bar exam. Even though Frank had a criminal mind, he had a sharp intellect too. Louisiana state did not set a limit to the number of times a person could take the bar exam and after putting his brain to it and studying about the law, Abagnale cracked it.

Grounded Now

19 now, Frank decided to come back to earth and leave the pilot career behind him. Faking transcripts and clearing the bar exam led his way from being a pilot to an attorney. The contacts he had built on his criminal journey got him a job and under the Louisiana State Attorney General, this was prestigious but could have definitely gone downhill. And it did, things started getting messed up for Frank.

Flaw In The Plan

Two events brought Frank’s career as an attorney to an abrupt end. One of Frank’s co-workers was of the same batch in Harvard that Frank claimed to be of. But the former could not place Frank. He grilled him with queries and it became increasingly clear that Frank had never been to Harvard. The man actually started looking into Frank’s past. This was one incident that alerted Frank, the other one, brought him to reality. He could not run from law forever.

Fearing that he would be busted in Louisiana, Frank fled the location and decided to go to New Orleans but someone was waiting for him whom he would rather not have encountered, ever. The police. This was his first close brush with the police which he narrowly escaped. Freaked out a little now, Frank thought it best to go to a more remote place, Georgia.

Frank The Physician

In order to rent an apartment, he had to put down an occupation on the form. Without much thought he wrote down ‘physician’ and now that he had made this fake occupation official on paper, he thought why not take it up as the next fake identity? A doctor in his building hired him as an intern supervisor. There was no need for him to have any actual medical knowledge, interns handled all the work. But even this identity could not last long.
