A wedding involves massive and thorough planning. There is so much to look after and care for. But instead of being stressed, Cathy was excited. She had gained enough experience from her daughter’s wedding that this wedding will go much smoother. Cathy and her husband were a fully functional team, and together they knew they can make this a grand success.
Kayla
Seeing her mother so excited and happy about the wedding reminded Kayla of the time she was getting married. She is Cathy’s firstborn so back then, Cathy’s excitement was on a whole new level. But this time, she knew there was more than meets the eyes. Her mother has been so busy looking after everyone else that she has forgotten to take care of herself. And even if nobody has noticed that she needs care too, Kayla sure has.
Happy On The Outside
If Kayla had learned anything in the past years, it is that her mother was one hell of an actor. She knew how to put on the biggest smile and crack the poorest jokes just to keep everyone around her cheerful. But deep down, she was not happy herself.
Noticing
Kayla has seen Cathy way too many times looking away from the mirror. There was a time when Cathy was so busy raising her kids that she didn’t have the time to look at herself. But things are different now, her kids are grown up. Each of them is busy with their own lives. So Cathy is not as busy as she used to be, which means she finally took notice of her appearance.
Hiding
Once Cathy noticed what aging did to her looks, there was no way to unsee it. Things which she was indifferent to before, bothered her on some level now. Of course, she never said anything out loud. But she didn’t have to, as Kayla noticed everything on her own.
Convincing Power
Kayla knew her convincing power worked very easily for her mother. Maybe it was because she was her firstborn, or maybe it was something she didn’t know but Cathy has never been able to say no to her. Even though Kayla has never heard ‘No’ from Cathy, she knew for what she is planning, she will need to use all of her energy to convince her mother.
