Checkmate

Anne had this different condition. She would marry John only if he managed to beat Anne in a game of Chess. While she was a master at chess, John was a weak sauce. John wanted to win over Anne and thus visited the park where people often played chess. Every game that John played with her, he would lose. Finally, it was after four months of proposing to Anne that he got the opportunity to say, “Checkmate”. But this didn’t mean that they had a happily-ever-after life.

Almost Perfect

It was almost perfect and not perfect. While people told John that marriage is no cakewalk, he and Anne made things work out. Their days were full of happiness and newlywed freshness. They even took a loan from a bank to buy a cottage on the outskirts. Everything was going smoothly until the day Anne visited a doctor.

The Unexpected

Anne was having some pain in her chest. She had sleepless nights due to that pain. Soon only she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was just 35 years old when one night she slept into peace and did not wake the next morning. John gave up on life by now. Every individual he had loved in his life, left him in a sudden and unexpected manner. Life was being cruel to John. And unfortunately, things did not end here.

Becoming Difficult

Though it was a very sad phase in John’s life, he was happy that Anne had given him ten years of beautiful married life. And he promised to himself that he won’t marry anyone and won’t even have children. He would stay with the gorgeous and blissful memories that his beloved wife had left for him. And then he moved on with life not knowing what all difficulties he was yet to face.

Rising Difficulties

John grew old. He had wrinkles all over his face. His vitality blew away. He was often tired and also retired from his work. He would prepare his meals all by himself and would only go for a small walk nearby to keep his health going well. For obvious reasons, it was getting difficult for him to survive and manage alone. Especially when his hands would often tremble.

Only Friend

In the years that followed, John had a Yorkie who was his only company. He would share his happiness and sorrows with his pooch. He would still visit the park to play chess with people there. Everything that reminded him of Anne was a top priority for him. And then there was one thing in particular. The thing which was indirectly related to John facing the embarrassment at the Walmart Store.
