It had been quite a year for Steffen. He had recently graduated as he finished with his senior year of college. And so since his studies got done now, he wanted to do something, to give back and celebrate life with love and compassion. “I had this money that I didn’t expect to have so I wanted to share some of that,” Steffen admitted, as he opened up about why he did what he did.

This reward was not something Berr had planned on fulfilling as he explained, “I didn’t plan on it. It happened. I didn’t know his situation either. I am just really glad I did it. I’m in a position where I have the resources and luck to do this so why not just go for it.” David was in complete shock, overjoyed by the fact that a customer had understood his struggle and was worth rewarding.

To be struck with luck in such a manner would have definitely been a wonderful feeling for a waiter like David. It would have been a much-needed validation for a struggling father. And so when the interviewers finally questioned David about how he felt when Steffen rewarded him with his incredible act of kindness, and generosity, he had quite a lot to say.

David did not hold anything back and was vocal about his gratitude to the kind stranger: “You totally just made everything so much better and like I said, you have no idea what you did for me and what made it so great, that he didn’t know anything about me.” But there is a good reason as to why tipping a bill is considered a means to “pay it forward”?

And as we know, tips are a major deal when it comes to servers. It is how a waiter or a waitress gets to be rewarded right away if the job is being handled well. The “Tip the Bill Challenge” is a good means of showing the appreciation you have towards servers who offer excellent service.
