The waiter had been working and was extremely tired that night as he was the only server there. So David was touched deeply by the kind gesture. He also needs to make sure that this was not a mistake and that it was actually meant for him. He searched high and low until he finally located Berr. He was a 24-year-old student at Sacramento State. He was overjoyed by the big tip that Berr had given him.
Expressing His Joy
This was such a rare occasion for the server so he could not contain his happiness, he needed to share it. David then took to Facebook to upload a post expressing his gratitude, “Thank you again to everyone who supported Steffen, and I’m glad this story was told!!! He is so young and JUST AN INTERN who goes to college.”
Paying It Back
This incident was actually something that Berr was not a stranger to. In fact, he was quite sympathetic towards David and because of a good reason. He had also spent some amount of time working as a server at a diner. So the night at the wine bar where David was struggling, Berr was quite familiar with how he was feeling. He understood the struggle and effort David was putting on that evening.
Understanding The Struggle
Since Berr had his fair share of working as a waiter, he could tell that David needed some sort of affirmation that he was doing a good job. He knew that serving is not as easy as it looks, that it actually takes a lot of patience. Steffen Berr revealed to interviewers, “I’ve been in his shoes before too, I used to work as a waiter in a diner in Texas, so I decided to show him what he did is appreciated.”
Tipping Challenge
Well, it turned out that the tip was actually a result of something that a couple of people were doing. Various folks have matched the bills and the tips that they give. This is because they are actually following a very positive challenge known as the “Tip the Bill Challenge.” But Berr was not really a follower of this challenge. He did not know David personally, nor was he aware of his struggles with money.
All The More Special
Since David now had to take care of other people besides himself, he could stay idle and not have a job. David was not aware of the fact that he would be a father again too. So the generosity that this guy showed him was all the more meaningful and special to him. Berr decided to do what he did only because he could tell that David was putting extra effort worth rewarding.
