America took the world by surprise when it dropped off atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan back on August 9, 1945, during the World War II. Though the bombs were launched on these two cities the blow was felt by the entire world. Especially the Soviet Union who was considered the only superpower competing with America. The unfortunate incident propelled USSR to commission a project of constructing a secret city that changed the face of Soviet Union.
Past Developments
If you know anything about world politics you must be aware of two things that shaped modern international politics i.e. World Wars and the Cold war that ensued right after World War II. Post World War II the once powerful Europe was left totally devastated that gave an opportunity to the United States and the Soviet Union to emerge as a superpower.
Divide Between The Two
The world had got torn into two groups. Whereas the one was led by America the second group had the Soviet Union as its leader. Both the leaders were striving hard to outdo each other in every possible way. When America exposed its nuclear power to the world, the Soviet Union did feel threatened and from there, an amazing journey of theirs began.
Hurrying Up
Before Soviet disintegrated into different countries and Berlin wall was taken down there was a heating tension going on between the communist Soviet and capitalist America. Both the parties struggled hard to prove their nuclear superiority. When America dropped off the bomb Joseph Stalin asked nuclear scientists to design nuclear bombs in five years.
Hidden Mission
When the world was reeling under World War II, Soviet Union had kickstarted an unprecedented mission. The mission was kept confidential and that is why very few people from the government knew about it. It took many years for the world to know about this mission of the Soviet Union.
Nuclear Power
The efforts had started in 1942. Soviet was exploring every avenue to become a nuclear power. The scientists were putting their best foot forward to make the project a success. However, the real push to the mission came when the U.S. dropped a bomb on two cities of Japan that bothered U.S.S.R a lot.
Dropping The Bomb Off
The attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki indeed shook the entire world but who it bothered the most was the Soviet Union. It goes without saying that the World War did play a vital part in bringing the U.S. to the front burner as an imposing power. It was a lesson not only for Japan but for the entire world.
