Tell Me About Yourself

 1. What have you learned from your mistakes?

This question is basically asked so that the recruiter can get to know about your capability of owning your mistakes. Answer in a way that shows how flexible you are to work upon the errors that you make.

2. Why is there a gap in your resume?

There can be a lot of reasons for why you took time off from jobs. And the fact is that if recruiters notice a gap in your resume, they are going to ask about it. You need to be wise in answering this question and make sure to put forward positive aspects. For instance, you could state that you learned a lot of new things during your time off from the corporate world. Or maybe you were working as a freelancer to find the perfect niche for yourself.

3. Why do you want to work for this company?

Never try to tell the employer about how great the company is. He/she has been listening to those exact same statements from every interviewee. With this question, the interviewer wants to check if you have done your part in researching the working of the company. For example, the recruiter wants to know if you know about the financial position of the company. You should also know about the products and services of the company.

4. What did you like and dislike about your previous job?

This question is more about what your tone and expressions are while you give the answer. Do not sound like you are a complainer. Answer positively and state all the beneficial things that you learned in the previous company. And whatever disliking you talk about, make sure to not whine about them.

5. Tell me about a time when something did not go as planned.

With this question, the recruiter wants to analyze your ability to work under unfavorable situations. Answer in a way where you can describe how you handled a situation where things went towards a totally different path than you had imagined. Try to give an example of a problem that occurred and you were able to solve it. Your skills to implement solutions to a problem is exactly what a recruiter wants to hear about.
