A Suspect Appears
After the police spoke to the coach and even the team members, they found that there was nothing suspicious that happened around that area. But, then police learned a parolee with sexual assault convictions was on campus at the time of the assault!
A Lie Detector Test
The parolee was given a polygraph test which he passed after he claimed that he was unaware of all that had happened. Investigators called Mary again to see if they could get any more information out of her. It was turning into such a dry investigation that they became more and more frustrated.
Changing Her Words
On March 17, Mary met with Chief Battinkoff and Brown but her car failed to turn up any evidence. She had another bomb to drop claiming that an acquaintance had also raped her earlier that day on February 22 at an apartment in Saginaw Township.
A Drunken Memory
She claimed that she was in fact intoxicated during that time giving her the inability to consent to any type of sexual activities. After he was done with raping her, Mary told them that she drove him to Delta College. Mary insisted that she was drunk and that she was sorry for the confusion. She pleaded the police not to speak to the man as well.
Some Other Suspect
Since they were in the middle of this heated investigation, they went and interviewed the accused man anyway. He said he had been with Mary on February 22 but that they never went to the college campus. He proved his innocence with the text message he exchanged with her.
Handing Them The Evidence
The message showed Mary’s claims of being raped by a stranger at Walmart. It also included her begging him to exclude himself from any police investigation that followed. It was more than confusing and police felt like they were being taken advantage of and they demanded a final meeting with Mary…
