Even if you do not have any linkage to the Holocaust, it does not take a lot to understand the kind of heartbreak a family must feel knowing that their ancestors were innocent but murdered still. We can only imagine the strong feeling of obligation that this archaeologist must be feeling to their descendant, to be able to honor their legacy.
Digging Up Items
After looking through every nook and cranny of the extermination site, there were a few discoveries that the group of skilled archaeologists made. They were more than determined to follow through with their mission, to unlock the secrets that the site had kept hidden for so long. The research team was able to dig up a few items throughout the camp. Among them were some rusty sets of locks and keys.
Dark History Indeed
If you really think about it, these keys held quite a significant role during the war. There was a point in time that these keys that were discovered kept the prisoners in their cells. They may appear weak and useless now but back in the day, they were used to retain millions of victims that lost their lives. The amount of dark history that they hold is inconceivable.
Personal Belongings
The excavation also led to the discovery of a lot of other items as well. Some personal belonging were also dug up by the team of Polish and Israeli archaeologists. And in the site where all the ruins lay, was this ring. This must have belonged to one of the victims. This ring had an inscription which read, “Behold, you are consecrated onto me” in Hebrew.
Now A Grim Reminder
To think that this ring once belongs to someone would leave anyone with a heart to feel some sense of empathy. The people who lost their lives during the Holocaust had actual lives of their own, with families and partners too. This ring must have probably been given as a romantic gesture. It is unfortunate as now it only serves as a reminder of who and what was lost.
Amount Of Bodies
And the team of researchers continued to look for more items that could serve as answers to the questions in so many minds. The items they found was nothing compared to how shocked they were when they uncovered this. The archaeologists soon dug up a number of decaying bodies. This was not an ordinary number because the bodies that were taken out were at an alarming amount.
