So what did the emotionless Nazis do to make sure their tracks were not uncovered? Well, they went ahead and burned all the camps to the ground. They also added to this by filling all the graves with concrete. They put in a lot of effort to make sure that they would not be found out so that the evidence of torture and murder was cleaned up. After doing all this, they thought there was nothing they had left behind…

Polish And Israeli Archaeologists

The Nazis were in a way, commendable because they had meticulously planned out a way to ensure that they did not leave any trace of the concentration camps behind. But as luck would have it, they had left a few details and so recently, there was a big discovery. A well-equipped team of Polish and Israeli archaeologists held an excavation at the Sobibor site where they found something.

The Mission

So what had brought this team of skilled archaeologists to this site? Well, they obviously wanted to dig up some dirt on what the Nazis might have possible left. Tales of what had taken place in and around the site had reached them which sparked an interest in finding out some answers. Their main aim was to get to the bottom of what happened there and hopefully learn more about the history of the Holocaust.

To Bring Peace Too

The archaeologists were looking forward to hopefully stumble upon new discoveries that could clarify the doubts and mystery that this place holds. The archaeologists wanted to uncover what took place there. They also wished to bring peace to the souls that had sadly departed. They scoured the whole site in search for anything that could help them with their mission.

Since this site and so many others all over Europe had lead to the death and turmoil of millions of innocent people, it has left many still heartbroken over it. We have also explained how brutal the causes of deaths have been. And even after all of the years that have passed by, there is still a need to try and rectify the cruel history that sites such as this have pinned to them.

A Linkage

And there was yet another reason why it was important to uncover the truth behind the extermination site. There was a close connection that one of the Israeli archaeologists had with the Holocaust. Yoram Haimi, who is one of the archaeologists from Israel had actually lost two of his uncles at the camp. He was particularly driven to find out more information about the tragic site.
