The character of Mark Rylance in Christopher Nolan’s 2017 film Dunkirk was inspired by Charles’ story. The 2nd officer on the ship, played by English actor Jonathan Phillips in the James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster Titanic. Till date, the character of Charles has been presented in more than 10 movies. Hollywood industry wasn’t alone to admire him.
Legacy Of A Legend
The world was inspired by Charles’ outstanding life. His family also had a great impact on his actions. Following his footsteps, all three of his sons entered in the armed forces while his two daughters chose nursing and intelligence units as their career. Even his grandson, A.T. Lightoller, became a reputed commander in the British Navy.
