In those time the first ladies were usually overlooked and the entire focus was circled in the fashion of president. Though Ellen could not enjoy that special attention like her successors did, It would be unfair to say that her husband did not have any fashion knowledge. In fact, he was one of the best-dressed men in the country. No need to say his style statement was the hot topic for the media and the public.
