One Of The Survivors
Laura Van Ryn was on the verge of giving up her life. The 22-year-old girl was suffering from internal bleeding and severe head injuries. Despite the wounds, she was fighting constantly to stay alive. Don and Susie ran straight to the hospital when they heard about their daughter. Lisa Van Ryn who happens to be the sister of Laura also rushed to the hospital with her parents said, “I was at home at my parents’ house and my mom came up and said, ‘We just got a phone call; Laura’s been in an accident.” However, they were yet to get the details. She added, “But we didn’t know the full extent of what had happened yet.”
Hard Times
She was unconscious when she was taken to the hospital. The minute she reached the hospital she was rushed into the operation theatre to take care of her injury. She was in a critical condition and the only thing the family could do was to hope and pray for well being of their child. It was then Lisa started writing blogs to let the world and the kids know about her sister’s horrible accident and how she braved that.
It Looked Bleak For Laura
Even after undergoing several surgeries her condition did not improve. The doctor eventually asked the family to take the girl home as keeping her in the hospital was no good. The family would spend days crying by her bedside. The hope of seeing her laughing and talking was dwindling day by day. Even though it seemed the luck was not on their side, the people surely were.
Attracting Condolences
The accident had put the Taylor University under the limelight. No doubt the case reached many ears and whoever happened to know about the incident showed their support for the family. Though the family was grieving but were relieved that at least their daughter was alive, unlike many other victims whose family were mourning the death of their loved ones. They still had the hope even if it was fading gradually.
A Long Road Ahead
Well as they say “nothing is more powerful than someone’s prayer.” After days of wait, pray and grief Laura finally opened her eyes. The family was still in tears but this time they had a smile too on their face as their little daughter was showing the signs of improvement. She was battling hard against the odds and that was very evident. Even though she was awake she still had problems in speaking. She couldn’t utter a word.
Still Weak
Not only that, it was impossible for the girl to lift her fingers let alone doing any other major movement. Her parents and sisters were around her round the clock catering to her tiny needs. From food to sanitation they would be up on their feet all the time. On the other side, Laura would see them with utter bewilderment and helplessness.
