Laura’s parents were up waiting for their daughter to come home. they did not go to the bed as they knew their daughter would come straight to them after coming home to share her experience. And they too wanted to know how well her trip went. Little did they know in a matter of hours they were about to undergo an unannounced tragedy.
Here It Comes
They were few miles away from the Taylor University campus when a truck crashed into the van. The sleepy night got jerked by multiple horrible screams. The accident took place when a driver of a truck was driving the car being half asleep. The truck was moving in the opposite direction of Interstate 69. The driver could not realize when the truck steered into the wrong direction and rammed into the Taylor group’s van.
The Messy Aftermath
The collision was so horrible that it stunned the entire surrounding. No need to say the consequences were equally terrible. Just a moment after the giant truck sped over the minivan the road got flooded with blood. The van had been badly mangled with all the passengers struggling to get out. However, only a few of them could make it out alive.
Calling For Help
One of the passersby immediately called the ambulance. By the time ambulance reached the venue many lives had given up the fight. However, the doctors pulled the blood-drenched bodies out of the wrecked van. Though there were still some who were whispering for help, more than half of them had gone to painful sleep. Onlookers had their hearts in their mouth when they witnessed this scaring scenario.
The Unfortunates
As far as the onlookers were concerned they thought as if a bomb had exploded somewhere around. They rushed to the spot only to see bodies bathed in a pool of blood. They had no idea how many bodies were there. Only four of the nine passengers could make out alive. Along with Monica Felver the university employee, four students namely Laurel Erb, Bradley Larson, Whitney Cerak, and Elizabeth Smith had been reported dead. All of them died on the spot. Those who were still breathing were taken to the hospital. No need to say they all were in critical condition. And one of them was Lauren Van Ryn.
Culprit
The man who committed the crime was Robert Spencer who had fallen to sleep while driving. It was due to his carelessness the accident took place. Fortunately, he got arrested on the spot. The culprit was sentenced five year in prison as he pleaded guilty on five counts of homicide due to his recklessness. The 38-year-old driver said, “I know I’ll have to deal with this the rest of my life.”
