Chris Pine as James T. Kirk
Chris Pine took on the role of Captain Kirk and was fortunately not a copycat of William Shatner’s version. Before starring in the Star Trek movies, he was in a few films but Star Trek definitely catapulted him into superstar status. His other films include Blind Dating and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. After the movie, he has received a lot of new roles like in the new Wonder Woman woman.
Zachary Quinto as Spock
2009’s Star Trek was for Quinto, his break out role. Before the film, he was on several television shows but never quite made a mark. His shows include 24, Heroes and So Notorious. He has been cast in a dozen of films after his 2009 role as Spock. It seems like his acting career is just beginning to bloom.
John Cho as Hikaru Sulu
No one could ever out-do George Takai, but then again John Cho was absolutely phenomenal as Sulu. The character of Sulu has been tweaked a little different in the new edition. John Cho has had a fan following ever since starring in the Harold and Kumar series and American Pie.
Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura
Zoe has already had her fair share of movies under her belt before her role in the new Star Trek came out in 2009. She has had co-stars like Tom Hank in The Terminal and has starred in big films like Vantage Point and Pirate of The Caribbean: The Curse of Black Pearl. She has moved past her other aspiring actress peers to become one of the most sought-after actresses in the business.
Winona Ryder as Amanda Grayson
Winona Ryder took the whole world by surprise as she starred as Spock’s mother. Although she only starred in the first movie of the new edition, her role was so unforgettable as it was the first time she came into the limelight after having a bad rep. She was the queen of the screen in the 1980’s and 1990’s and Star Trek was her big comeback. She then appeared in Black Swan which actually won an Academy Award.
Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard McCoy
DeForest Kelley’s character is the type that has now ceased to exist. His type was not just made, unfortunately. But when Karl Urban went further to take on Bone McCoy’s character, his approach would have to be very fresh. His character needed to be re-invented to fit the new audience. He did justice to the character and fans adored him.
