The brave soldier was tense out of anticipation. As they stepped forward Risdon was able to have a clear look at them. The first sight which caught his eyes were of their clothes. And he began to judge them because of their clothing. Unintentionally, he was cooking certain possibilities about the real identity of the strangers.
Hands In Pocket
The shady figures wore jackets and were well covered. The rainwater drops spilled from the sides of their jacket’s sleeves. They appeared to be in a hurry. Risdon was judging their every moment as they stepped forward. One of those had his hands in the pockets. It was quite evident that he was holding the inner linings of his pockets tightly. Was it because of fear, anxiety or cold?
The Unexpected
As the intruders came in light, all eyes settled. The shady figures were that of two boys. They seem to be quite young. They must have been some 9-year-old and 16-year-old respectively. Right at the moment when Risdon breath a sigh of relief, the elder boy pointedly asked him the unexpected.
A Robbery?
The boys brazenly asked Risdon if he had any cash? These words came shocking to the soldier. He was taken aback. Two kids who should be innocent as of their age such outrageously asked a soldier for his money astonished the onlookers. Were they trying to enact a bank robbery or something? Risdon in a stern manner stood up.
What For
When the boys approached the two soldiers, by that time they were already eating. Risdon in a heavy voice asked the boy, “For what purpose do you want the money? What are you two doing here?”.The boy shuddered and in a low voice said something that came surprisingly to the soldier’s ears.
A Realization
The boys told the officer that they were here to raise some funds for a local church nearby. And to raise that fund, they are selling some homemade bakery goods. Risdon could not believe his ears. Undoubtedly, the mysterious boys were nothing but innocent and generous souls who were trying to help humanity.
