But the smell bothered Kelly to the point that she had to pull over. She had to get out of the car and walk over to where Rocco was to examine the source of the smell. At a quick glance, she still couldn’t place the source. But then she took off Rocco’s harness. And finally, Kelly discovered the unbelievable source of the stench.
The huge wound
There was a huge gash on Rocco’s chest, which measured about 6 inches long and 1.5 inches deep. The injury had been completely hidden by the harness, so it had gone unnoticed by Kelly. It was now obvious that the smell was from the wound; it was so badly infected. Rocco had to be taken to the vet as soon as possible.Rushing to the vet
Rocco was fortunate in the matter that the infection could be controlled. The vet prescribed Rocco antibiotics and pain reliever. They explained to Kelly that as soon as the infection was gone, Rocco would require surgery. Kelly was grateful to hear that Rocco was going to recover. But she still had to establish the culprit and reason behind Rocco’s injury.
The reason for the injury
On close examination of the wound, she realized that his injury was caused by the harness he was wearing. The vet explained to Kelly that Rocco had most likely been wearing the harness since he was a puppy and while he grew the harness tightened around him, becoming embedded into his skin. An obviously enraged Kelly sought out the woman who sold her Rocco.
She confronted the people responsible
Furious, Kelly confronted the woman about Rocco’s injury, who was completely caught off guard. The woman panicked and tried to bribe Kelly by promising to get the owner to pay the medical bills. But Kelly understood that Rocco was clearly abused and decided to call the police instead.
But justice prevailed
When the owner was questioned by the police and Kelly, he tried to play it off by saying that he had no idea where the injury came from. He feigned complete ignorance about its existence. He further claimed that the harness was there for Rocco’s safety, so he didn’t run away. But alas, it did not work in the favor of the owner and his roommate because the court didn’t believe them.
