After leaving the Celtic, he played for Brooklyn Dodgers who were his childhood heroes. In 1951 he went on to join the Chicago Cubs playing first base. To top all that he was drafted by the Chicago Bears. He could definitely blame his talent in sports that have shaped him to be talented in other spheres as well.

Dennis Hopper actually appeared in one of the initial episodes of The Rifleman called “The Sharpshooter.” He then played a totally different character again in another episode known as “Three Legged Terror.” In fact, Dennis was not the only actor to have multiple roles in the show.

Paul Plays It Again

It would appear that during the 1950s, men with the ability to portray cowboys on television were very few. Paul Fix took the character of Marshal Micah Torrance on the show in the later episodes, but previously had a role in the “The Sharpshooter” episode playing Hopper’s doctor.

A Trekkie Tie

Paul again starred on the pilot episode of Star Trek, “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” as Dr. Mark Piper. He was later replaced by DeForest Kelley. But then, “Where No Man Has Gone Before” actually aired a 3rd episode on season 1, so it means Dr. McCoy was the ship’s physician even before Dr. Piper.

Fear The Candyman

The popular Rat Packer and talented entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. had a guest appearance on 2 episodes of The Rifleman, “Two Ounces of Tin” and “The Most Amazing Man.” Playing a mean and nasty sharpshooter, a cowboy called Wade Randall, he actually impressed a lot of the audience with how he handled his gun.

A Copycat

There was one more show featuring a single father raising his kids during the 1950s called Bachelor Father which starred John Forsyth. Then in the 60s and 70s, a show called Julia, played by Diahann Carroll.  Juli raises her child and would give many life advice or lessons to her kid. It mimicked the conversations that McCain and Mark had so some could say it was copied…
