LeShay’s mother always knew how special her daughter was, but the extent of it only dawned only after she heard of Maroney’s experience. “I’d already known she was special from that day. But when I heard him say that on the show, he was saying she was his hero after everything he’d done. Until he said that about LeShay and her smile and hug, I never knew that could mean so much to a person,” Leshay’s mother told Airman.

Maroney had always set his heart on giving back to the family who had changed his perspective on life so much. And the show was able to fulfill his wish. The family was offered a $10,000 check, along with a car. But LeShay’s mother refused the car, in favor of using that to also let Maroney have a cheque for $10,000. After the initial meeting, Maroney headed to Mississippi with his family to meet the Browns at their home.

How Did They Spend The Money?

LeShay’s mother showed her enormous capacity for compassion by refusing to accept the car, and instead, giving the amounting money to Maroney. She decided to use the money to herself a much-needed car, and an iPhone for her daughter. Whereas, Maroney used the money to clear his debts. But first and foremost, his first purchase was a milkshake for LeShay who loved ice creams.
