But with the practical help from the LiDAR technology, the concrete evidence has been unearthed today. The scholars always believed there is more than lies beneath the Yutacan jungle and they were right. The answers lied in the deep forest and today we have them in our hands.
Fought To Survive
The Mayan civilization established themselves as the powerful force some 1,000 years ago and built their first cities. Some even believe that the Spanish people took over the civilization after they completely destroyed the last known city of the Mayan civilization in 1697 which eventually ended the Mayan dynasty. But there are other scholars who don’t agree with the Spanish taking over the civilization theory. To them, the disappearance of the Mayan civilization was still a mystery. But not anymore. Today, we know what actually happened.
What Else We Know?
It is believed that the Mayan people invented the astronomy, calendar systems, and hieroglyphic writings. It is believable they did all this because of the discovery the research team made which is far amazing than what we told you. The civilization lived with their own belief systems where they worshiped a numerous number of deities. They had their own rituals and culture. But other than being a calm civilization, the Maya people always knew that they needed to be war ready. So they did this.
Ready For War
As we told you, during the whole LiDAR process the research team found fortresses which lead them to believe that the Mayan civilization was always warred ready and saving the civilization from outer world force was the priority. But the LiDAR showed Garrison and his team something more amazing than the fortresses. The fortress was the beginning of finding something incredible and it didn’t take long them to discover something more astonishing about the Mayan people.
Radar Radar!
So, how does this LiDAR thing works? It has a very unique style. Firstly, the radar is fixed on the airplane. Then the airplane flies over the objective location while the radar aims “laser pulses hundreds of thousands of times per second,” said Thomas Garrison Ithaca College archeologist. “And every time one of those lasers hits a point of resistance, it stops and sends back a measurement to the plane.”
Difficulties
But there were several problems faced by the research team that even ended the research. So, basically, the area on which they were using the LiDAR technology was covered with the tress. We told you that. But what we didn’t tell you is the height at which the plane was supposed to fly to achieve the objective. But because of the trees that almost covered every inch of the area made the process delayed. The pilot couldn’t control the plane that was about to touch the trees as the LiDAR had some limitations. But Garrison had a plan and it was because of this plan he was able to make this discovery that changed everything for everyone.
