Friends Not Foe
It did not take her much time to figure out that the pooch was a member of the pack. This fact came as a shock for Nace as she had always heard that coyotes and dogs are not good companions, in fact, dogs should be kept away from coyotes. The sight she was seeing was flying in the face of the age-old belief that asserted on the dog and coyote enmity. But whatever the case was, she still needed to help dogs.
Taking Help
Nace decided to take her to the nearest local dog shelter Buddha Dog Rescue in the loop. She called the shelter and got answered by the founder of organization Nicole Asher. When Nace told Nicole about the peculiar friendship she just witnessed, it baffled the founder also. Thereafter the two came up with a plan to find that particular dog in the wild and rescue him.
Tracking Him
To catch the dog, it was important for Nace and Nicole to take note of his day to day activity as befriending a coyote and living with them is not something that every dog does. After finding out his location they began to track his activities. The more they observed, the more they got surprised. It was difficult to not to count him as one of the coyotes.
Unusual Pals
Nicole Asher aptly narrates the incident. She says “He was being sighted constantly, playing with them, running with them.” She continued “How he integrated with them we don’t know. We have no idea.” The coyotes, on the other hand, were enjoying this stranger’s company
Unheard And Unseen
Asher had never seen or heard something like this. No doubt, being a founder, she had rescued many stray dogs before and had seen them in shocking conditions but this one, well, this one was different and even more shocking. Naturally, Asher was yet to get over the sight she beheld!
What Was That
She expressed her astonishment by saying “it’s not unheard of,” she added “there are ‘coy dogs’ out there, coyote-dog hybrids, [which] happen when dogs and coyotes mate. But it’s rarely seen in person—you know, dogs hanging with coyotes.”
