Their affection for each other only increased with the time. Despite staying more than half a year separated they still yearned for each other. When the construction work got over and the living space of the bear was enlarged, Mäuschen came back to her old home and after seeing the unbreakable bond of both, the staff decided to let the cat stay with the bear.
Milion Dollar Reaction
On seeing each other, the reaction of both the friend was spectacular. They rushed towards each other and snuggled hard. Muschi showed her love to Mäuschen by licking all over her body. Kloes narrated “They greeted each other and had a cuddle and now they’re happy,” It was indeed a treat for the viewers to see this side of animals. A board has been placed beside the enclosure of the bear that reads “The cat and the bear treat each other carefully and respectfully.” It was done to assure the visitors who worried about the safety of cat with the bear.
The Unsafe Friendship
But it seems that the board was not of much help as the visitors still continued to ask the caretakers about the security of the cat. Heiner Kloes the animal attendant in the zoo stated, “in spite of the sign it still regular occurs that visitors warn us.” Some people go to the next level and ask caretakers if they could take the cat home with them. On being asked how do they handle these questions Heiner Kloes replied: “We tell those people, only if they take the bear too.”
Growing Grey
After turning 35, Mäuschen was moved to elderly person home. Still, Muschi did not leave her side. They still were basking in the company of each other. The bear had grown grey and weak. So weak that it became impossible for her to move. She also wasn’t able to eat enough food but she still liked the tiny cat playing in her big hand.
Scams Related To Zoo
The zoo had been embroiled in many controversies. Bernhard Blaszkiewitz, the director of the zoo had been alleged of committing several crimes against the animals of the garden that included bear and cats both. He himself had admitted killing four cats in 1991. He justified his crime by saying that the feral cats are dangerous for animals and humans alike and their existence could be dangerous for the survival of other animals. He killed those stray cats by breaking their neck. These heinous crimes were not done against the cats only many other animals had become the victim too. For instance, four black bears were taken to a slaughterhouse of Belgium in the pretext of taking them to another zoo. Here both the cat and the bear were in the sphere of danger.
The Tragic End
The year 2010 marked the end of the remarkable friendship between the bear and the cat. Muschi was left alone when Mäuschen was euthanized by the zookeeper because of several diseases she was suffering from. Suspiciously, the zookeepers did not reveal the movement disorders that made them euthanize the old bear. In addition to that, the zoo did not put forth any evidence that substantiates the requirement of Gnadenspritze for her. Furthermore, it is not clear what actually happened to her remains as mentioned earlier the zoo was defamed for using animal remains in illegally. The director had been accused of killing one-hundred-fifty animals for different reasons. However, whatever the reasons were the cherished friendship had come to an end.
This particular zoo has seen many unusual friendships. The next story is about a polar bear named Knut and his atypical friendship with a human. Their friendship made headlines worldwide but unfortunately met a sad end too.
