Here Comes The Unwanted Moment

Finally, the bear spotted the cat! Surprisingly, instead of killing the intruder, Mäuschen welcomed her in the most cordial way. No one had expected this. The caretakers were in shock too. It was a phenomenal sight. It is worth mentioning that the cat was not from the zoo. She had come from some other place nobody has any idea about. As she had formed a bond with the bear and became an attraction point of the zoo, she was allowed to stay there. The caretakers cared for her just the way they cared for other zoo animals.

Friends!

In no time they became best friends and stunned everyone with their deep bond. Their friendship had become the talk of the town. The cat used to spend most of her time in Mäuschen’s enclosure and hence was named Muschi. It seemed the two were having a mother-daughter relationship in which Muschi was Mäuschen’s daughter and the bear was her mother. They never left each other’s side for a single second. They used to do everything together. Seven years had passed by and they were still in love with each other. “Muschi entered the enclosure of Mausi nearly seven years ago and started to eat the food in the enclosure. She was accepted straight away and they have been inseparable ever since, sharing food, cuddling and spending their days together.” recalled Thomas Dvrflein, a worker in the zoo. Everything was going well for the friends when something unexpected happened to them.

Star Of The Zoo

The cat had become the cynosure of the zoo. It is important to mention here that the cat was very popular among the old visitors. As Heiner Kloes a member of management board explains ‘The cat has a real fan club, mostly among our older, regular visitors.’ But where the cat came from was still a mystery. Kloes further adds  ‘She appeared from nowhere in 2000 and we decided to leave them together because they got on so well. They sunbathed together and shared meals of raw meat, dead mice, fruit and bread.’

An End To Friendship?

In October 2007, the management decided to enlarge the living space of Mäuschen. That needed a lot of construction and in order to execute the plan, they had to shift the bear in a cage for some time. That meant the bear and the cat would have to go their separate ways. No doubt getting a larger space was a good news for the bear but it was certainly not a good news for their friendship. Eventually, the time came when the bear was moved to a cage. What do you think was it going to be the end of a beautiful friendship or something more surprising was on its way?

The Crying Cat

The decision impacted Muschi the most. She was visibly not happy with her friend staying away from her. She had no idea where her friend was kept and hence searched for her every now and then. Workers thought she would stop looking for Mäuschen but she kept on searching till she found out the cage of her best friend. In those times, she used to sit for many hours and cry in front of the cage of Mäuschen, waiting for her friend. At that time the only thing she wanted was to snuggle with her pal. Her melancholy attracted the attention of every visitors and zoo workers. The workers felt bad for being the reason for their painful split. Everyone who saw the cat in such state felt disheartened. The separation had only strengthened their bond.

The Pining Cat

The zoo staff knew that both the animal were craving for each other’s company. They wanted to bring them together but there was nothing they could do. The sight was indeed very disheartening for every zoo visitor and for the staff workers. It was to see how long the cat was going to pine for the bear.
