Today’s Shetland Sheep Dogs have evolved into a canine larger size than its ancestors. To be precise, they have grown twice of there size that they used to be 100 years ago making them weighs around 20 pounds. No doubt, they have changed a lot in the matter of size but same can’t be said about their height, not much difference has been registered in their height. Their fur has also undergone changes. They are a more furry animal now. During the time when American Kennel Club recognized the breed in 1911, it had the fur of medium size, unlike today when their fur is longer and brighter. They have a larger quantity of fur now and therefore, sheds a lot. What hasn’t changed is their nature of being friendly, smart and alert.
Neapolitan Mastiff: Then
Neapolitan Mastiffs were bred in southern Italy. The history of this breed goes back 3,000 BCE that marks the commencement of the Bronze Age. It was the time when there was no differentiation between the Upper and Lower regions of Egypt and hence for guarding purpose mastiff-like pups were taken into use. They used to work in Tibet as well. If you look at the picture you will realize that they look unique in their appearance. They are huge in size, they have loose skin and thick facial fold makes them look different and somewhat terrifying. Looks could be deceptive, it rightly applies to them. Though they look very dangerous, they were known for being a gentle canine a century ago.
Now
Even after a whole century of breeding, they still have that appearance of folded skin and rolling gait, and facial wrinkles and gentleness. However, some difference can be observed in the height and weight of this canine. They have grown larger in both the term. As far as their weight is concerned then they have accumulated the mass that weighs from 120 pounds to 200 pounds and their height has stretched about two feet to two feet and seven inches. This gentle dog is a great human companion and makes a good pet. They are kid friendly and other dog-friendly. But they shed a lot.
Poodle: Then
Nobody knows when the Poodle originated. But surely there are some theories that presume its origin. Some say that they bred from the old French Barbet breed and some believe that they come from Germany and were bred to be a water dog. Whatever the source of origin might be, one thing for sure they are very intelligent breed ranking behind the Border Collie. They are very active by nature and has the skills of agility, obedience, tracking, and herding. Despite the Poodle above’s posh looks, these dogs were very useful for a variety of different tasks. Owing to their skills they used to perform in circus rings back in the day.
Now
Generally, people have misconceptions regarding this breed. They have been shown as dogs who lead their life in glamour and luxury, It may astonish you to know that they are nothing close to that. They are very active just like their forefathers. Unfortunately, Poodles have been portrayed only as a fashionable breed with their colored fur and painted nails and not for what they really are. They can easily be trained to do any tricks like their ancestors. They come in different sizes ranging from Toy, Miniature, and Standard Poodles.
Bedlington Terrier: Then
Bedlington Terriers comes from North East England that was used to murder vermin and to become a sidekick for poachers. They have outstanding hunting instincts that make them the most preferred choice for being the hunter’s companion. They have a very sharp sense of smell and along with that are always ready to get dirty. These all qualities make them a perfect companion for poachers. They also have made their name in history for being in a dog race, dog sports and in conformation shows. Another fact that not many people are aware of is that they also are an excellent swimmer from the very beginning.
