The Photographs
So did the 70,000 images taken on the puzzling land of Antarctica shown to the public? Well sadly, no. In fact, the mystery was maintained and these precious photographs were never seen by the public. They remained a secret much like the continent itself. So why is it that Antarctica is such a secretive land that we still find hard to understand? Is the land full of strange and mysterious things that the government has decided to sweep any information about it under the rug?
History Repeats
The findings and discoveries made by the people on that mission served to be one of the only sources of information to try and understand the land. Many researchers and scientists still want to study the ice laden plot of land in details and try to understand its history and existence better. In recent years, the polar ice caps have been melting, which had resulted in the slow unveiling of all the questions that needed to be answered, giving us a deeper look into the Antarctic world.
The Beginning
The temperature fluctuations that Antarctica faces is again something truly unbelievable. On an average, -128 degrees Fahrenheit is the minimum temperature on this land. Even in the freezing colds and the unlivable conditions that this land offers, many curious scientists and dedicated researchers still spend days upon days exploring it. During the mid-90s, all the hard work and the endless struggle while studying the land finally bore fruit. There was a change which resulted in something the researchers never thought they would find…
Melting Of The Ice
So, during the mid- 1990s a strange incident took place. This happened at the Larsen Ice Shelf. The Larsen Ice Shelf is known to be strongly interconnected to the Antarctic Sea. About 30,000 miles of this ice sheet is encircled by Antarctic Eastern Peninsular Coast along and the Weddell Sea.
This was the region that ended up revealing something about the hidden Antarctica that shocked scientist all over the world. The discovery had ended up making their beliefs on how wonderful this land is even stronger.
Unexpectedly
When 1995 happened, a portion of the Larsen Ice sheet broke off and drowned deep into depths of the sea. The part that had broken off is known as “Larsen A” and this had disintegrated entirely. Since scientists have not yet explored this land extensively, it took a lot of time to try and decipher why this happened. There was yet another contributing clue named the ” Larsen B” that happened in the year 2002. This part of the iceberg went into the Weddell sea and the land under the sea was now visible.
A Mishap
Then there was another sudden breakage from the Ice shelf. This was 1,250 square miles which are basically the size of Rhode Island. This took place in the Antarctic in the year 2002 on January 31 sending shock waves to the scientists all over the world. There was definitely something that caused this shocking change in this part of the earth. Does this continent have a mind of its own? Is it consciously trying to keep itself in hiding? Are these scientists just wasting their time trying to figure this out?
