Queenie – 1950s
For those of you who do not know her, this is Queenie. Queenie was a waterskiing elephant back in the 1950s. Even though she was born in Thailand, she was ‘imported’ by the USA. There was controversy surrounding this act when Queenie fell off her skis in Jun 1959. It is one another example of how humans exploit other animals.
Fidel Castro and Che Guevara – 1960
Here are the two South American revolutionaries. Fidel Castro was a communist politician who became the President of Cuba from 1976 to 2008. Che Guevara was an Argentine Marxist, having been in the spotlight during the Cuban Revolution. The two are fishing back in 1960.
John F. Kennedy – 1963
John F. Kennedy, also known as JFK, was the 35th president of the USA. His presidency lasted from January 1961 to November 1963, meeting its end with his assassination. It was on November 22, 1963, that this photo was taken. This was the day of his assassination, a topic that is still debated.
Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali – 1964
Here are Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali back in 1964. They are at a soda fountain in Miami. This photo was taken shortly after Ali won over Sonny Liston. Muhammad Ali was then still called Cassius Clay.
U.S.S. Enterprise Model – USA, 1965
The U.S.S. Enterprise is an iconic starship featured in the TV show Star Trek. The photograph you are currently looking at is the first known of the U.S.S. model. It was snapped in 1965 in Los Angeles, USA.
Moon’s Surface – Moon, 1969
This is the first photo taken by a human on the moon! The astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to land on the moon, took this picture in 1969. Whether or not men landed on the moon is still a topic open for discussion. It is still interesting to see what the moon looks like, assuming it actually happened.
