Throughout this unusual journey, Patricia expected Vernita to tell the people about her existence. Unfortunately, Vernita refused to exude. Despite that, Patricia did not go to the press. But she and Oprah’s family did decide to tell Oprah about it. No one had any idea how would she react to it.
Oprah’s Moment
When this unusual news broke to Oprah, she could not believe her ears. Famously known for reuniting families, Oprah had no idea one day she would have to meet the same fate. God has its own way of surprising people! Before buying it, Oprah decided to do some investigation. The first person Oprah went to after hearing the news was her mother, Vernita Lee. She asked her mom for the truth but she called the claims a lie. She couldn’t get the truth from the expected source but that was not going to keep her away from the truth.
She Took A Step
Oprah was still not convinced with her mother’s word. One day in October when she was in her make up room getting ready for her show, something clicked her mind. Before going on the stage she asked her assistant to find out about Patricia and check if the claims she is making are right or not.
The Truth Came Out!
A few days later, Oprah asked her assistant if she has found out the truth. Her assistant told her that she has reached to the bottom of the case. It was then Oprah asked her if Patricia was indeed her half-sister? To which her assistant replied in positive while looking into her eyes. Now, it was confirmed that Patricia was actually Oprah’s half-sister.
Speechless
Thereafter, Oprah went to her mother and presented the unavoidable evidence that left Lee speechless. There was no use lying now so she finally confessed that Patricia was indeed her daughter. Vernita bore Patricia in her womb in 1963 and gave her away to a foster care shelter right after her birth. Oprah wanted to meet her half-sister immediately.
Not Giving Up
Patricia who did not know that her half-sister has found out the truth was yet to give up. She was determined to meet her mother. After many endurance, she finally succeeded in her efforts. Vernita Lee agreed to meet her. and this time she admitted that she is Patricia’s mother. But why she admitted now after months of denial?
