Why she needed to share the story was because she hoped that someone out there would somehow find an inspiration to do the same and help out any war veteran they meet. Since they had served the country during their time, she felt a sense of owing to them. She also had a curiosity to know how many times the old man in the wheelchair had struggled on his journey to get to Walmart.
Going Viral
And so when she penned down her experience on social media and shared it, Megan did not expect anything to happen much of it. But she would soon learn just how touched everyone else was about her little episode with the old veteran in the wheelchair. It was a mere emotional post when she first shared it, but after people read it, they shared it and pretty soon it was read by so many across the nation.
Learning From It
And in a matter of time, the story went viral on social media. Megan’s story was reposted by hundreds of thousands of people within a matter of days. When she heard and read the responses from so many people, she felt like the old man would not be so alone in the world after all. Megan self reflected from this experience as did many who came across the post.
Doing Some Reflecting
Megan was incredibly glad to have met the old man because she unexpectedly got to learn so much from him. “I’m so glad the post has touched so many people,” Megan revealed in an interview she gave back in June 2015, “There are far too many people like that gentleman who need help, and I want to encourage everyone to help others. Trust me, it will be a very humbling experience,” she added.
Warm Responses
And so many people gave Megan heartwarming replies. The comment section was flooded with people who gave her so much praise. There was one who left a comment, “You have such a big heart and I wish others felt and cared like you do.” This was a person who really felt good after reading her story. Another person labelled her to be very “precious.” It was not all for Megan.
Marching Forward
Little did Megan know that her post would leave such a huge impact on so many people. Although Megan’s Facebook post was an emotionally charged post about her frustration with what the old man had been struggling with, it received so much positive feedback. There were so many people who revealed that the went out of their way to help veterans in their community.
