Exchanging Personal Info

When they finally made it into Walmart, the two strangers started to chat. They soon learned quite a lot about each other as they began sharing stuff about both their lives. Megan revealed some stuff about her family while the old man informed her about recently becoming a widower. The elderly man in the wheelchair was, in fact, a war veteran.

To The Finish

Although she got to learn a bit about the old man, Megan did not know his name. She never actually found out the name of the veteran whom she helped buy grocery with. After already helping him this far, she wanted him to be taken care of till the end. The man then handed her a short list of items that he needed to get from the store too…

Something Missing

So when he gave her the list, she could see that there were only four things: peanut butter, soup, bananas, and bread. Megan sensed that from the list, there must be missing something. All the products he needed to get were non-perishable. This was a little interesting to her so she asked the man why. What the man replied was kind of heartbreaking.

 The Heartbreaking Truth

If you think about it, it is a little strange to head to the grocery store to buy things that are all non-perishable. When she saw this, Megan got very curious and proceeded to ask the old man in the wheelchair why. So why did he not put anything perishable on his shopping list? Well, it was because he was scared that they might spoil before he could reach home.

His Good Reason

And upon hearing his reasons, Megan thought it was very absurd. How could groceries end up being spoiled that quickly? But then, Megan realized another reason why this was so. She got to know just how incredibly far the retired military man had traveled just to buy his groceries. It was indeed a far off place from where he was residing.

 The Incredible Distance

So when he explained to her, the amount of distance he had to travel to come and get his groceries, Megan was stunned. The man in the wheelchair had actually traveled quite long and far to be able to do his shopping. Megan also found out just how much he had struggled to get here. He actually had to wheel himself from his house to Highway 119. This was just the start…
