Nastia Liukin – Then
Nastia Liukin was practically born into the world of gymnastics. Her parents were former Soviet gymnastics champions who escaped the USSR as the Iron Curtain fell, eventually settling in Plano, Texas. Nastia after spending most of her life in gymnastic gyms took part at the USA Gymnastics National Championships. She joined the US Gymnastics team, winning five medals for the Stars and Stripes at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Nastia Liukin – Now
Nastia Liukin now works in the business of gymnastics apparel. While she did compete up until 2012, Nastia is now busy with her line of gymnastics leotards and pink gymnastics equipment. She enrolled at New York University and graduating with a degree in sports management and psychology. She got engaged to boyfriend and hockey player Matt Lombardi.
Laurie Hernandez – Then
Laurie Hernandez is the incredible American gymnast at the summer Olympics in 2016. She is also a part of Final Five. In 2016 Laurie won over some of the Olympic team members on certain apparatuses in competing for a spot on the Olympic team. In Rio, Laurie won a silver medal for the balance beam and a gold along with her other team members for the team category. She has received 11 medals in total where 4 are gold.
Laurie Hernandez – Now
Laurie Hernandez was supposed to join the University of Florida in 2014 to join the Florida Gators gymnastics team. But changed her mind to compete at the Olympics instead. After the Olympics, Laurie joined the television series Dancing with the Stars on season 23 to be the youngest winner ever. Laurie has published a book called I Got This: To Gold and Beyond, becoming a New York Times Best Selling author.
Shannon Miller – Then
Shannon Miller is truly an all-star gymnast. She won the Olympic silver in the all-around individual category in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics with four more Olympic medals from that very same competition. In 1996 Shannon joined the Olympic team again winning two golds in 1996 in Atlanta making her the most decorated American Gymnast of her time out of both females and males at the Olympic games by winning a total of 7 medals. That year she became the most successful athlete at the Olympics.
Shannon Miller – Now
Shannon has been inducted into 4 different halls of fame including the United States Olympic Hall of Fame and the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. Shannon graduated from the University of Houston with a B.B.A and then to Boston College Law School. In 2015 Shannon published an autobiography, Not About Perfect: Competing for My Country and Fighting for My Life. She is the president of Shannon Miller Lifestyle and the Shannon Miller Foundation which fights childhood obesity. She is married with two kids with her husband John Falconetti.
Simon Biles – Then
Simone Biles has become the most decorated American gymnast in history, dethroning Shannon Miller. Simone won a total of 19 medals including 4 gold medals and one bronze in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic games in 2016. Simone is the best at the vault and floor categories and even the coveted all-around. Simone won the ESPY Award for Best Female Athlete in 2017, taking a year off to train again this year.
Simon Biles – Now
Simone Biles joined the cast of Dancing with the Stars while on a hiatus from gymnastics after the Olympics ended. Biles was placed fourth with her professional dancer and partner Sasha Farber. She claims she is “testing the waters,” getting into training mode again. She is unsure whether she will compete for a spot on the next 2020 Olympic team to fly to Tokyo. Rumors are, she is romantically linked to Stacey Ervin and her pictures seem to prove it.
Madison Kocian – Then
Madison Kocian is another Final Five Olympic team member specialized in the uneven bars with 10 medals for the uneven bars to prove it. After the Rio de Janerio 2016 Olympics she blew the competition away on the uneven bars and got the silver Olympic medal. Her team won a gold medal. Since 2008 this was a first for an American to get a medal on the uneven bars.
Madison Kocian – Now
Madison switched gears joining University of California, Los Angeles, in the fall of 2016 and was a part of the NCAA gymnastics when she competed on the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team. A question arises as to whether Madison would go back to the Elite world of Gymnastics to compete in the next Olympics in Tokyo. Madison has revealed that “it’s still in the back of my mind, and I haven’t ruled out anything yet.”
Carly Patterson – Then
Carly Patterson was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of fame for being the first American to have won the Olympic gold medal for the all-around back in the 2004 games in Athens. Carly also brought home two Olympic silver medals for the team and balance beam categories. She had won 7 medals, 4 golds, and 3 silvers. Due to health concerns, she retired in 2006.
Carly Patterson – Now
In 2008 Patterson had a contract with MusicMind Records. She produced an album called Back to the Beginning in 2009. She joined Simon Cowell’s television series called celebrity Duets with partner Jesse McCartney! She was in a Super Bowl commercial in 2006 due to one of her lucrative corporate sponsors. She is now married to Mark Caldwell, a strategic consultant, in 2012 with one kid.
