Holding The Hand Out

The woman finally with her efforts and undaunting courage managed to reach the dog and she could feel that Tessa was panting and shivering. She herself had started losing breath. Her legs were becoming numb and it was harder for her now to swim. One of her dogs came to her, worried but that seemed like it might worsen the situation. Everyone started that dog back because he could have fallen into the ice lake to make the situation way worse. The task at hand to come back to the park and start of the return journey was recorded by Ben West on the video that is posted ahead.

Returning Seemed Next To Impossible

The swim in minus degree temperature was taking a toll on the woman’s body now too and everyone else was scared to go near them because of the fear of falling into the water themselves. The woman had to carry the dog back with her now which means the weight of her return journey was substantially increased and therefore it was slower. With the dog barely breathing now, she knew the time was running out. She was starting to have blurred visions too but she did not let go of the dog. She also had to be conscious that her own dog does not fall down. The tasks were too much for a single woman to take care of. That is when others awakened.

Call The Paramedics

When they saw the woman returning with the dog, both shivering and getting tired by the second, someone acted out and called the Paramedics so that both can be taken care of and the dog taken to the hospital if need be. The people standing there started to bring out stuff that could help the woman and Tessa to come out of the water quickly without further jeopardizing anyone else’s life. In the video, we can see people extending a ladder to the woman so that she can hold onto it and can be dragged out. You can only believe the entire episode when you see the video in the coming slide!

Out, But Not Of Danger

The woman managed to come out of the lake with the dog, which was pretty traumatized and with shivering legs started to walk towards her owner. Someone took the woman and the dog to the nearby house and started to tend to them and soon the Paramedics arrived. West observed that though the woman was in “shock” she was “calm”. The dog, on the other hand, was being checked for any signs of physical injury. Ben West posted the entire video on Instagram and we have posted it here in the coming slide.

Also, this was not the only case in Vancouver where a dog nearly drowned. Another dog fell into an icy river and then it was an elderly couple which tried to swim to its rescue, the video of which is also posted ahead.

Local Hero

Of course, this selfless and courageous act of the woman who put her own life in danger became an inspiration to many people around. The dog owners were really grateful to her and her dogs went behind her to check that she was fine. She set an example for all and taught them that all lives are of equal importance. Ben said, “I was just in shock and really just amazed at this woman’s kind of heroic instinct to go do this thing.” He added, “It wasn’t even her dog.” In an Instagram post and video, he described it all, which is produced in the next slide.

This is what Ben wrote in his Instagram post, “This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen with my own eyes. A dog went out on the ice and fell through at Trout Lake and without hesitating this woman went out in the water breaking the ice with her hands and rescued the dog!?! It wasn’t even her dog. I’m so inspired and so happy it all worked out for the best. I saw the dog fall through the ice and screamed out. Community members all rushed to help and support her. We were all calling the dog’s name so it would keep swimming. She was rushed to a house in the neighborhood and put in a warm bath while the paramedics were en route. A few of us then had to chase this woman’s dog around in circles in the park as she looked for her owner. We finally got her and brought back to her owner. ” And ahead is the entire video of the incident!
