On Thin Ice
Yes, the pupper was literally on thin ice and since it was quite young it did not have strong danger instincts. Just when West’s camera was recording his dog, the phone captured this. The ice under Tessa had broken down and the pup was now in deep chilled water! Ben said, “Next thing you know, I looked over and this dog all of a sudden went through the ice.” No one saw that coming and obviously, they were panicking. Everyone along with the dog’s owner started calling Tessa’s name in the hope that she would listen and somehow swim through the ice to them. But it was visible that the dog was tiring out and their calls were not helping. Just when everyone was starting to freak out the most amazing thing happened which is recorded in the video ahead.
Not All Stood By Watching
West informed, “The dog, whose name is Tessa, struggled to climb up out of the water, breaking more ice each time.” But it was not enough. He then informed and also recorded on his phone, “There was a woman there who had three dogs of her own who had just shown up at the park. She didn’t seem to know anybody else there.” While everyone stood by watching, recording and freaking out. She did not think twice and plunged into the ice to save the dog that was not even hers! But that did not mean that the dog’s life was out of danger. The dog was pretty far away and had started to lose her breath.
“Don’t Do It”
People thought she was crazy, they shouted behind her “don’t do it” but she did not listen. The reason why people were discouraging her instead of supporting her, was because they knew how dangerous her step was. Ben was clearly astonished, he said, “This woman, it wasn’t even her own dog, she just started trotting out onto the ice and kind of falling through onto the water.” She jumped in the cold ice with all her clothes on and bare hands, in water that chill, there were high chances of her getting hyperthermia and since it was winters there were also afraid that the ice might start freezing around her and she too might be stranded or worse dead, with the dog. But none of these thoughts entered this woman’s mind. All she saw was that a life was in danger and it needed to be saved.
Using Her Bare Hands
It was chilling and the woman had plunged into the water as an act of impulse, without planning out anything. She had no tools available to break the ice, guess what she used? Her Bare Hands! Yes, she did not even have any gloves on. Imagine breaking the frozen ice with your hands, that too in winter. Even in the video, we can notice that the palms of her hands have gone red and they were probably hurting really bad but she did not stop. Meanwhile, the dog had started to tire out and was swimming no more. Would she be able to reach in time? Or at all?
Swimming Through Ice
We all can swim through water, we grow up learning to, and Jesus could walk on water, but this woman literally swam through the ice to save a stranger’s dog. How many people would have taken the headache of doing such a thing for even their pets? This was no joke, her and the dog’s life were threatened but she did it anyway. When people were shouting at her “don’t do it”, she shouted back in reply, “it’s a dog, I have to.” It just shows how compassionate this woman was. Maybe she thought if ever one of her three dogs get into a dangerous situation like this, there might be some person like her who would help her dogs. We can only expect from others what we are ready to do, right?
Closing In
This seems like a scene from a movie does it not? Where two people are trying desperately to reach each other in order to be saved. The only difference is that instead of two lovers or friends, here is a woman and a dog she never even saw before. The woman was aggressively breaking the ice with her bare hands in order to reach the dog at the earliest because she could see the dog was getting tired and giving up. Tessa had even started to sink. When the woman saw this she made her advance even faster but it is not easy to be swimming across a frozen lake. Meanwhile, people were trying to encourage the dog to not give up.
