Intruders

Not every treasure hunter or adventurer is disciplined and knows boundaries. Some are driven by greed which makes them act in the vilest ways. This treasure news too invited bandits. Taken over by greed and having no respect either for the whole adventure or Forrest Fenn himself, strangers have shown up on Fenn’s door even in the middle of the night to get him to leak the information.

Dangers Fenn Got Into

These strangers who knocked on Fenn’s door were not so polite. There have been times when Fenn had to call the police to get rid of notorious elements.
One person went as far as giving Fenn a death threat over a phone call. He demanded answers but Fenn being Fenn did not give him anything.

For The Thrill Of It All

This was Fenn’s ultimate purpose in hiding the treasure out there; for the thrill of it all. That is at least what Fenn wanted it to be. He wants people to remember the journey and their toil in making that journey- the chest is just a cherry on the cake. Some people took things way too seriously than they should have.

Get Outta Bed

Fenn wants people to give up the comfort of their beds, mobile phones and other technological devices they are dependent on and go out and have a fun experience. The riches in the chest are the incentive. For some, this whole idea proved counterproductive.

The Dark Side Of The Story

Thousands of people have gone on this quest and have failed. Among these were unfortunate four who died while looking for the treasure. Obviously, this did not please either the authorities or the general public. People blamed Fenn for this needless loss of lives.

The Missing And The Dead

A man named Randy Bilyeu who went in search of the treasure went missing in the January of 2016 and was found dead 6 months later. Jeff Murphy was found dead in the Yellowstone National Park in 2017 after he fell from 500 ft. A man named Pastor Paris Wallace died the same year in June and Eric Ashby who was just 31 died the subsequent month, looking for treasure.
