Oak Ridge Today

After the town served its purpose there was no longer the need of keeping it out of bounds of the public. Hence, the fences were let down, the high surveillance lifted and the town was made open to the public.

Mapping It Down

It had been 14 years since the war and finally, in 1959, Oak Ridge was officiated as an existent place and put on the map. The secret was out but what happened to the nuclear plants there?

Demolished

The S-50 plant was demolished just sometime after the war but the K-25 still actively produced Uranium for decades. It was not until 2013 that efforts even began to take this nuclear plant down.

All the sites in Oak Ridge where the nuclear plants existed are being converted to national parks now where people can tour and know about the beginning of the end of the war. The site is so popular that there is a waiting list for registration!
