The Repentance

On being interviewed by WSB-TV News, Cofield explained, I didn’t want to hurt [Childs]” and whatever she did was not intentional. She never wanted to defame him or make fun of him. It was just a reaction and that too impetuous. She then was realizing her actions and apologizing for the same. She told that she was devastated by knowing the situation of the young man.

 Horrified

Moreover, she was already annoyed by the absence of her children and the scene she saw that day acted as a catalyst in annoying her even more. Cofield went to the restaurant in which Childs was working with. They both had the first one on one conversation outside the restaurant. Cofield said, “I’m sorry. Because, you know, that horrified me. That breaks my heart for you.”

Lesson For The Good

She told Childs that she paid the price of doing so. The social media backlashed her for posting that image which made her delete that post from her account. Cofield was asked by a reporter if she would opt for the same method again ever if situations like this appear. Her answer was, “Absolutely not. And I would handle it differently. Maybe talk to somebody and see what the situation is.” She then leaned a lesson that would help her in the future as well.

Other Side Of The Story

Cofield never showed her emotions in front of anyone. She was a strong-willed lady, smart enough to live alone without even complaining. The one incident completely changed her life and perspective as well. She tried analyzing things in her personal life as well. She no more gets annoyed when she comes to know that her kids would not show up that year as well. All she could do was wait for them.

Empathy

On knowing her side of the story, tears rolled out of Childs’ eyes. He then understood how hard it is to wait, especially for mothers. He hardly got time to visit his mother and spend time with her. He missed his mother then. He could see his mother in Cofield. They were running out of words as they were emotional. They hugged each other and expressed their apology.

Coin Flipped

Childs reaction was somewhat different. He could have reported that lady, but no, he said, “I’m not homeless, not now, thanks to [Cofield]” in an interview. Had she not captured that picture, his life would have been going that way. He was then blessed with a roof over his head, a new job, new clothes and of course good people around him. The situation that once offended him, turned out to be positive for him.
