They were sure that they finally found it but didn’t know what is to be done with it. The team decided to give it into the hands of the authorities who will be able to solve the mystery of the last hours of Flight 980 and will finally give many families a satisfactory closure. However, what was about to happen will be leaving everyone with shock and disappointment.
Legalities
Once they contacted the authorities, they were informed that they have to take the permission of the Bolivian government before handing over the findings to the United States government. As the thing was found on the Bolivian grounds, it was a long process to complete. The U.S. government couldn’t take the findings. But Dan and Isaac were confident after completing their mountain trip that nothing could be as hard as their last few days.
Making The Pass
It took more than half a year of a long process to finally come to an end. Eventually, the Bolivian authorities allowed the United States to continue their investigation and take over the findings of Dan and Isaac. On January 4, 2017, Dan and Isaac gave the so-called black box to the authorities.
Grasping In The Dark
Dan and Isaac waited eagerly to know what would be the reports after the investigation is over. When NTSB made its announcement, the duo was stunned to know that what they brought back with them was just the outer covering box and not the actual recording tape! How did that exactly happen? Even after so much of research?
Not Too Far
The two of them were heartbroken for a while and recalled that once they found, what they assumed to be the black box, they stopped their search and returned. They said that they felt very close to the recordings and that anyone who’ll try to find will definitely get what lay inside the black box, the important recording.
