Getting to talk to Sparks in such a difficult situation and that too on facebook was indeed a stroke of luck for him. The forest was dense and all dark. Getting a signal to communicate to the outer world was deemed impossible but there was he sending SOS.
It’s Difficult
As mentioned earlier, Mikey had badly injured his left wrist so he had to do all his work with his right hand only. Not only that, the roaming call was draining the battery out of the phone. The battery of his phone was going to die anytime soon.
Location
However, Lythcott managed to share his location with Sparks. “He said he didn’t know where he was, that he woke up in the woods. He was very disoriented. I asked him if he could send me a pin drop, which he did,” Sparks recalled.
Feature That Helped
Lythcott must be very thankful to the location feature of Facebook as he put it into use when he himself did not know where was he. Sometimes these never heeded things proves to be very important.
Action Time
Sparks jump into action soon after she saw the message. She along with some of his other friends decided to rescue the man. the group included a Vancouver friend with contacts in Indonesia that really helped in kickstarting the rescue operations. Another friend in Netherland called local Bali police and informed them about him.
Under Scrutiny
One of his friends scanned his location through an online map. The friend who was scanning it from Los Angeles learned that there was indeed a waterfall next to Mikey’s location.
