Ocicat
If you look at this breed of cats, you would think that it belongs to the wild. However, Miller says of these cats, calling them “an example of a breed established through a hybrid mixture.” The Ocicat was born when in 1964, a Siamese was bred to an Abyssinian. This kitten named Tonga was welcomed with its beautiful multicolored fur coat. These are graceful cats whose dark fur coat looks to have been “scattered over a lighter color coat with the suggestion of a classic tabby, rather than ‘mackerel’, pattern,” in the words of Miller.
Cornish Rex
The Cornish Rex with its elegant arches and strides resembles the moves of a ballet dancer. It is also blessed with a very muscular body. “The Cornish Rex is considered to be the raciest beauty of all the cat breeds,” Miller describes, “and it always seems to be in motion.” The Cornish Rex has soft hair without any “guard hairs,” with a very approachable personality making them “good shoulder and lap cats,” in the opinion of Joan. They are usually very different and eye-catching at cat shows as well.
Bombay
This is another cat that would not come as a surprise if they were mistaken for a wildcat. They look like a smaller version of a panther. They were first spotted all the way back in 1958. Bombays have a close link to the Burmese breed and are reportedly very few in number. They also behave like a panther as they walk very confidently, slow and sure. If you see this cat anywhere in the jungle, especially at night, you would surely feel intimidated by just its looks alone.
Maine Coon
The Maine Coon does not disappoint and they always “draw a gasping sound of awe from an audience at a show,” according to Miller. ”The males are especially gorgeous, large cats—some over 20 pounds—with a rectangular body form and a huge full tail.” The Maine Coon has built its reputation as a New England barn cat. “Short dense down hair, close to the skin, resists abrasion, while ear and toe tufts kept ears warm and paw pads comfortable,” explains Miller. There are over 70 different shades of Maine Coon cats, each one as beautiful and as majestic as the other.
Abyssinian
The Abyssinian breed has a silky and sleek coat with some ‘ticking’. “The Ruddy Abyssinian is my favorite, with rich, orange-brown color and black ticking, a combination that gives the coat an iridescent radiance unmatched in any other cat,” Miller claims. The Aby breed is very playful and closely resembled the structures of ancient Egypt. This breed of cats are known to be extremely social and would even approach you first. How many cats can you say initiate an interaction first?
Birman
The Birman is known to have medium length fur coat and have distinct clear blue eyes. “A wonderful detail is that white gloving which also appears on the hind paws, extending in a V-shape up the back of the hock,” Miller reveals as she outlines what this cat is known for. These cats also have a very adorable tail that is puffy and long. Their fur is as soft as a cashmere sweater making the Birman all the more irresistible. They look like a kitten even if they are all grown up which may be the reason why they are so popular.
