The costume posed a big challenge to him. And to overcome that he started practicing in his own apartment. He tried to feel the things around him while walking as a blind. He did a lot of things to make himself comfortable in the suit from plonking on an apple box, holding his knees to meditating.
Bob West
The body of Barney, Joyner also sheds light on the equation he shared with the Bob West, the voice of Barney. According to Bob, they used to do “dinosync.” Joyner stated: “As I have my headphones on, I can literally hear him taking his breath. And knowing that as he’s about to speak, I’m almost inside of him, knowing exactly what he’s about to say.”
Did Not Let Him Move
Joyner recounts the experiences he had while being put in the costume of Barney. He had to face a lot of troubles as the costume did not let him move his head. The costume had its head and body stitched together so it made his vision restricted to one direction only.
The Unspeakable Problems
Joyner just not had the vision problems, the costume also prevented him from going to the bathroom. He narrates an incident that happened in 2017 Reddit AMA at Mardi Gras. He states “The costume wrangler pushed a Gatorade bottle up the crouch opening of the costume and I had to aim, use, put on the lid, hand it back to her, all while waving and dancing on the float.”
Loved Being Barney
Although he had countless troubles while playing the character, he still is in love with Barney and will always stay fond of him. According to him “Barney was beautiful. Barney was very, very good to me. I loved being Barney. I loved everything about being Barney. But that chapter is gone.”
