They continued digging day and night till their shovels struck a hard object buried under the ground. The sound of clank made their heart skip a beat. Had they found the treasure? Both the men looked at each other and then at the ground. Perhaps, they had reached the final stage of their mission.
A Sword?
As they dug further, they spotted a long object. Colin immediately picked it up and realized that it was a sheathed sword. The man who was expecting a pot of gold did get disappointed a bit. But this discovery was nothing less significant than a pot of gold.
Amazing Discovery
The man was very amazed. He had never thought that the “treasure” they had been digging for so long would be a sword. He described, “It was hidden at a 45-degree angle and sort of just fell out.” “It looks like an old peasant’s fighting weapon because it appears to be made up of bits of metal all knocked together.”
Whose Sword?
He wondered whose sword was that? But in order to understand its mystery he needed to do some research on the history of the place. After doing some research work he gathered that the area was a piece of woodland before his house came into existence in 1895.
A Woodland
He explained, “I’ve been doing lots of research into its history but I’d like to try and find someone to date it. I’ve looked at old maps which showed Drake’s Leat and illustrated the area was just woodland until this house was built in 1895.
What Was Here?
Colin said, “We have no idea when it was built. There could have been a couple of cottages here or it could have served a farm. “I’d like to find something down the bottom, something to give me an age. “I wish I had a Tardis to go back in time and see what was here.”
