Prediction
As stated in the letter, Wilkinson was not expecting the letter to the surface for 50 to 80 years later from now. However, Ilic managed to find the letter before the time. But still, there were many predictions in the list that had come true. What were those predictions?
Driving In ’95
Greg Wilkinson enlightened the reader about the kind of car he used to drive in those days that helped Ilic to imagine the technological advancement of that time. He wrote that he used to drive “Isuzu Trooper Diesel 3.2 liter 4 Wheel Drive.” The mentioned car is very heavy and consumes lots of gas. He went on to say that at that time they used to take “unleaded fuel,” in use.
Technology That Prevailed
Wilkinson spent a lot of time writing about the state of technology that prevailed in the year 1995. As he had expected this letter to be found after 8 or 9 decades of its burial, he found it important to make the reader aware of the technological situation at that time. He stated that in 1990s computer was rising to prominence. He too had a “486 laptop with 8 MB 240 RAM Hard Drive.” The man was indeed ahead of his time. He further wrote about the program he was using at that time: Microsoft Word (for Windows V5.0 at his time). Thereafter, he also talked about the internet.
Turning To The Future
Once he was done describing the technological world of that time, the man got to the point. He gave predictions on how the world was going to be in the coming years. He prophesized some prominent future events that were going to shape the world. He even talked about the politics that was going to turn upside down.
China- A Superpower
In the letter, Wilkinson had done predictions on many future political and economic aspect of the world. He prophesized that in the coming future, a particular country would emerge to the power. That country would soon become a “superpower of the world.” Along with that, he also predicted that China is going to be a country that would have a big share in the world economy. Not only that, the communist country would have America as its major trade partner which implied that China would go through some social changes. And that is what actually happened. China has changed a lot in these 15-20 years.
