Two More Soldiers
Two other soldiers in 1880, came to the town near Arizona with a big loot. Making their way to their Superstition Mountains they met the Silver King Mine operator, Aaron Mason. The soldiers proposed him a deal where they would let him in on their loot and in return Aaron would make them his partners. This is how things were supposed to have worked out- the soldiers would lead Aaron Mason to the mine and the latter would have taken care of the mining business. But the curse of the Mountain was still working and things did not go well for these people.
No Return
After this agreement, the soldiers went to the Mountains but they did not return even after a fortnight. Aaron Mason got worried and sent a search party to look for the soldiers who the travelers claimed they had not seen. One of the soldiers was not alive anymore and found it quite an unspeakable condition and a few days later the partner was found in the same state. Everyone thought that the Apache community was behind the deed and Jacob Weiser, the Dutchman’s friend went missing too. And everyone started blaming the German. But was he the one responsible?
Dutchman Passes Away
No one could prove the accusations against the Dutchman. He on his part kept on digging gold and enjoying it for more than 20 years. And the man successfully kept the secret for all this time. He passed away at a ripe age and in riches. When his place was visited, a lot of gold nuggets and raw gold bars were found. It was useless trying to gain knowledge of the location of the mines, the secret passed away with the Dutchman. People finally knew for sure that he had indeed been exploiting the mines for his benefit. The secret was gone with him but history repeated itself, unfortunately.
Sparking Rumors
After the Dutchman passed away, the mines started being called The Lost Dutchman’s Goldmine for obvious reason. There were rumors that he never located the mines and was just fooling people to carry out some undercover illegal activities. Then there was a version according to which Waltz was actually a decoit who came by his riches by looting people. Even with all these rumors in place, nothing hindered people from looking for the gold mine.
Turning Into A Myth
The gold mine started becoming a myth after Waltz’s death. Like a legend which attracted an uncountable number of treasure hunters to it. The curse of Thunder God still seemed to be in place. People went looking for the mines and did not return. Search parties found bodies in ineffable conditions. If earlier Dutchman was responsible for these tragedies then what was happening now? Was the curse of the place really a truth?
Landscape Is Tricky
Trekking in any place can be tricky but the terrain of the Superstition Mountains can be difficult. The climbs could be fatal and jumps, injurious. The terrain is made up of narrow passageways, plateaus, steep peaks, and cliffs. A major part of its area has still not been explored for the sole reason that it is difficult to access. This terrain is itself responsible for a large number of tragedies that have taken place here. But the ways in which the bodies have been found can’t all be blamed on the terrain.
Some people believe that the search for the treasure, drive men crazy which leads them to do, well, crazy things.
