Bethany Hamilton after living such an extraordinary experience decided to release an autobiography called Soul Surfer. This was turned into a full-feature film. There have been several documentaries made about her and she has even appeared on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’. She has served as an inspiration for so many people all over the world as she is resilient and determined. She started a Christian charity back in 2007 called Friends of Bethany. This charity helps amputees all over the world to share each other’s stories and get gifts too. She made sure to use her disability positively.
Thrill-Seeker
Bethany has never slowed down since the attack. Her adventurous spirit and craving for adrenaline often take her outside her hometown of Hawaii. And on March 2013, she took part in a women-only car race with no phones in Morocco for awareness on hereditary cancer risk. She also joined in the show ‘The Amazing Race’. Bethany gained a lot of recognition for what happened to her but garnered equal amount of recognition for her roles as an unstoppable surfer.
Surfing Over Adversity
Even though Bethany Hamilton has gained enough attention and recognition to be considered a celebrity, she has always stayed true to her humble self. Fame has never swayed her to leave the tropical island paradise. She is still living in Kauai and has since married her Christian youth minister love, Adam Dirks. They are proud parents of 2 small children named Tobias and Wesley.
Fulfilling Her Promises
Bethany still surfs till date and has always been in and around water still. She has gained a notable amount of fame and acknowledgment for her career in surfing. The attack and her survival story have only become a portion of who she is, it does not define her whole identity.
