9. 2014 – Netherlands Beat Spain 5-1
In 2014, Spain and Netherlands contested a very interesting match. Being the previous champion all Spain had to was to defend the trophy. They had their first match against the Netherlands which itself was a rematch of 2010 final. Spain started off nicely.
Going Tricky
Xabi Alonso leveled up the score with 1-0 by converting a penalty. Well, till then nobody knew the tricky situation Spain was about to go into. It began with Daley Blind who threw the ball going over Robin Van Persie. He used a header and dashed the ball that crossed Iker Casillas.
Destroying Spain
Robin Van Persie scored a goal that cleared the air a bit more regarding the future of the match. In the 53rd minute, Arjen Robben rose to the scene with scoring one more goal and after eleven minutes of his score, Stefan de Vrij made another goal. Van Persie gave the final form to the game making score 4-1.
10. 2014 – Germany Beat Brazil 7-1
The 2014 World cup was played on the soil of Brazil and the same country successfully made it to the semi-finals. A lot was expected from Neymar Jr. the Brazillian player and the expectations doubled because the game was played on their own soil. This time they had to compete with another strong team Germany for the trophy. Naturally, people expected die-hard match but very much to everyone surprise the match got over only in 30 minutes.
Saddest Moment
Well, it was an unexpected blow to the audience as they had not expected such a weak performance from Brazil. In popular language, it was a “biggest shame for Brazil” getting defeated so badly on their own soil. Whereas the performance of Germany was doubted, Germany no doubt, gave a stellar performance.
