The German-born bombshell Uschi Obermaier first found fame as a top model. Jimi Hendrix after meeting her fell deeply in love with Uschi.  In the movie Last Experience, she and Hendrix are seen kissing and embracing each other nearby West Berlin hotel. Obermaier was a pioneer of the sexual revolution as she was very open about her sexual escapades with the media. Obermaier also had flings with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and went on tour with them in 1975.

This was a picture taken behind the Mosque Theater in Richmond. The woman shot in this photo was a big mystery for 60 long years.Barbara Gray, who is a real estate agent from South Carolina finally revealed that it was indeed her in this photo with the king. She revealed that she called Elvis’ hotel because of a dare speaking to him for about an hour and got invited to his show in Richmond where the photo was taken.

Judy and Karen

Judy Wong and Karen Seltenrich were not just typical groupies. They were serious about their fashion and have made many iconic trends follow through after working with bands and models. Wong ran a San Francisco clothing store the two were popular for their unique sense of style. Seltenrich even appeared on the February 1969 issue of Rolling Stone magazine cover. They dressed The Cockettes making these rockstars wear women’s clothing on stage.

Winona Ryder is one of the coolest chick ever. She was the quintessential 90s cool girl who obviously broke a lot of hearts, including a long list of musicians as well. Her love interests include Jack White from The White Stripes, Dave Grohl from Nirvana, Conor Oberst from Bright Eyes and also ‘one guy’ from Green day as well. She does not speak about her personal life so some of these may just be rumors.

The Sanchez Twins

The beautiful Sanchez twins, Laura and Lynn were indeed an important part of the “groupie elite.” Since the two of them are such showstoppers, even the rockstars were keen on being by their sides. “These ladies were different from all the girls I knew – all the women I knew – and Jann [Rolling Stone editor] agreed it was a good idea; it ultimately became so interesting and extensive that it became an entire issue,” Rolling Stone’s photographer Baron Wolman said, as he spoke about these girls.

The GTOs

Groupies were not just there to hang with these famous musicians. Some of them had a genuine passion for the music as well. A group of groupies even formed the band called The GTOs. Frank Zappa actually formed this band that had 7 members. A member of the band explains The GTOs as “a really outrageous, loud group of girls who just wanted to turn heads and have fun.” They released an album called Permanent Damage.
