Unsure About Everything
And since the thirst became too unbearable, something happened on the boat. The Indians boarding the boat started to drink salt water. And by the eighth day, their supply of water got over. It led to the death of a few of the members. Imagine the horror the guys must have been through as they experienced this. The other men were not sure what the future held or where they were.
In The State Of Delirium
And when Ayres was asked, the men who had survived started to become a little delirious. He described what happened and explained that they “had barely enough hope and heart to carry on.” Their intense dehydration and also frostbite was taking a toll on their well being and this started to show. But Ayres was set on saving the few men who were still alive…
The Magic Word
So it had been the longest 13 days of their lives on the boat. With their ship sinking and several members dying, the only seven men alive were desperate to make this suffering end. Then suddenly, one guy uttered the magic word, ‘Land’. They could see the Lizard lighthouse on the southernmost tip of Cornwall. This was 300 miles away from where their ship sank. However, there was yet another issue…
So Close, Yet So Far
And so after seeing that this was not their imagination playing games with them, Ayres hurriedly sailed towards the land. But as excited as they were, their small boat was hit by a giant wave and resulted in the boat capsizing leaving only three men to escape from drowning. Ayres, fortunately, got him and two others on board but then something tragic happened once more.
Another Tragedy
Even though he got them on board, it was sad because the other two men had already drowned. Ayres was left tired and all alone. He explained that he was getting himself to give up and accept his fate but that he heard voices telling him to not lose hope. It was from three young girls in London and they were strolling around the cliffs and saw their boat flip over.
Rescued By Three Girls
And after seeing that there were there men on a boat, seemingly unconscious, the three girls knew they had to step in. One girl ran across the fields to get help while the other two ran down the beach shouting at these guys to keep swimming. The girl who went to get help returned with a coastguard who then threw Ayres a rope and he was successfully pulled to shore.
